If you came across this review accidentally, you might think what the hell Ni no Kuni is. But if you have played the first entry of the franchise, you will know that you are in for a treat. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is developed by Level-5 but we can give them a 10 for the job they did. Get ready for another journey through the beautiful anthropomorphic world of King Evan.
I Had a Dream…of a Kingdom without War
As mentioned above, you will be playing as Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum. Although he was supposed to become the ruler of Ding Dong Dell, the ratfolk faction staged a coup, and he was forced to escape. Yes, the in-game names might be tricky to pronounce, but they are witty. In fact, the entire world is breathtaking and incredibly beautiful. Evan also knows that, and that is why he will need your help in his efforts to save the kingdom.
Evan plans to establish a new kingdom called Evermore. He also wants to join with other kingdoms in the realm so that they can build a no-war world. However, the evil sorcerer Doloran will do anything in his power to prevent him from doing so. He is already controlling the kingdoms. His way of ruling is to force people to work all the time while imposing brutal taxes. The storyline of Ni no Kuni 2: the Revenant Kingdom is touching, the characters are well-written, and you can feel their pain, which means the developers did a great job in this area.
Explore the World, Build the Kingdom, and That’s Just the Beginning!
You wouldn’t believe how many different things were packed into a single game. Once you start playing it, you will spend hours and hours exploring features that NNK2 has to offer. There are four kingdoms to explore and boss battles wait at the end of each. Needless to say that these are the most engaging fights but regular encounters with foes are also interesting. You will need to improve your character to deal with stronger opponents, but you shouldn’t expect much grinding.
Each successfully completed level brings you rewards. Your new kingdom Evermore will be your base and you have the option of expanding it in multiple ways. You can research sciences and tactics, harvest resources, and build new structures. The vast world that you have to explore will be filled with creatures of different specialties that you can invite to Evermore. I won’t talk much about the graphics. Instead, I will refer you to the screenshots and the trailer. Just take a look at them and you will see just how beautiful this game is.
