When I got this game, I realized that it has been over a decade since I played the original Neverwinter Nights. The internet was more precise, and I soon found out that exactly 16 years have passed since the classic RPG we all know and love was released. Beamdog is now bringing us Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition and, if anyone was supposed to bring this game closer to new players and optimize it for the latest technology, I am glad it’s them.
What Is New in the Enhanced Edition?
We won’t lose much time, but let me just remind you that Neverwinter Nights is a classic fantasy RPG with online co-op and multiplayer battles. There is a reason why it survived over 15 years on the market and became a must-have for all the lovers of the genre.
As for new features, let’s start with graphics. The crucial addition in this area is that you will be able to play in HD and Ultra HD resolutions. Everything has been optimized for 4K and 1080p so that all of us with large monitors and LCD TVs can enjoy the game properly. Enhanced Edition also brings us cleaner and crisper visual presentation. Let me just mention one details that I enjoyed – the fact that you can apparently notice the field depth at any moment.
Let’s Talk Gameplay and New Content
As for the gameplay, everything remains just the way we love it. In fact, any mods, modules, and save games from the original are supported and playable in Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition. Needless to mention that the community has created tons of content over the years and you can enjoy all that. Furthermore, support for the Steam Workshop has been added. That should motivate the fans to create new modes and additionally extend the replay value of the game.
NW: EE also offers downloadable content with new adventures. To be honest, there is not a lot of new material, but you can’t deny that the developers made an effort. However, they are apparently relying on the community to be the leading content creator for the release.
The whole multiplayer system has been rebuilt for the purpose of the new game. That means that online play should work flawlessly. It will be a piece of cake to start playing with other real-life players. Also, there is a Friends List that you can use to add those you know and find them easily.
Finally, I would like to mention the Dungeon Master Client feature. In it, you will be in the role of the storyteller. You will take control of characters, creatures, and monsters that the players encounter during their adventure.
